COLUMBUS, Ohio —
One. When a team scores two shorthanded goals, it is going to be a good night for them. That’s what the Tampa Bay Lightning did in the third period against the Columbus Blue Jackets, who couldn’t get anything going on any of their five power plays tonight. The Lightning took advantage of it and went on to win 4-0.
Two. Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky is still searching for his first win since December 5. He looked much better in the first 40 minutes, stopping 27 of 28 shots on goal. It was the team in front of him that let him down, as they did not have many quality scoring chances that challenged Lightning goaltender Ben Bishop and allowed two goals on turnovers by defensemen Dalton Prout and Ryan Murray. Despite the skaters’ play, Bobrovsky took a step in the right direction with his performance in his second game back from injury.
Three. Today’s loss to Tampa Bay and Friday night’s 3-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins were the Blue Jackets’ first back-to-back regulation losses on home ice since Jan. 19 and 21, when the Jackets lost to the Washington Capitals (6-3) and Calgary Flames (4-2). Even with tonight’s loss, though, the Blue Jackets are 7-3-2 in their last 12 home games. Home ice has been nice for the Blue Jackets lately, which has been a positive sign after the way the first half of the season went at Nationwide Arena.
