One. The Washington Capitals showed the Columbus Blue Jackets exactly why they are the NHL’s best team by taking control of the third period to seal a 4-1 win. Though the Blue Jackets showed resilience after Saturday’s embarrassing 5-1 loss to the Nashville Predators, the Capitals proved to be too much for the Jackets to handle. The Jackets’ three third period penalties didn’t exactly do them any favors, either.
Two. Blue Jackets forward Boone Jenner didn’t let a puck in the face in the first period stop him from finishing tonight’s game, even though it took a few teeth out and several stitches to repair. He came back with a vengeance (and a smile), switched headgear twice and took two penalties as he battled the Capitals. The Blue Jackets fan favorite’s storyline tonight was further immortalized on social media in the form of a @BoonesTeeth Twitter account. Despite the loss and lost teeth, there is no denying Jenner’s heart and work ethic.
Three. With six games remaining, the Blue Jackets have to decide what impression they will leave on the 2015-16 season. Unlike the past few years, there hasn’t been a miraculous run to put pressure and high expectations on the team before the start of the next season, but they also haven’t finished completely at the bottom of the barrel this year, either. Will the team continue to slide toward a high(er) draft pick? Or will they finish the season with their pride and dignity intact with a handful of meaningless wins?
